Halloween week was filled with excitement and entertainment for everyone at Parks’ Place.

We kicked off the week with our first annual HOWL-O-WEEN Dog Costume Contest. Fourteen dogs visited in their Halloween best and paraded so everyone could admire their costumes. Throughout the week, residents, staff, and visitors voted for their two favorite dog costumes. After nearly 200 votes, a winner was announced on Friday: Lola and LeRoy Beilby won for their Cow and Chicken costumes. Congratulations to all the participants!

On Wednesday night, we welcomed a group of 8th and 9th grade boys from the Wayzata Hockey Association. They led activities and decorated Halloween cookies with the residents. Thank you to the Bantam B2 Navy team for connecting with our residents and demonstrating your commitment to serving our community.

On Friday evening, we enjoyed numerous trick-or-treat visitors. Residents loved seeing all the adorable costumes. As you can see in the photos below, we had a wonderful variety of characters, and we even ran out of candy!

Additionally, we welcomed Janet to our Parks’ Place family last week. We are excited to get to know her and her family better in the coming weeks.

The November calendar of events (presented above) is complete and packed with a variety of activities for everyone to enjoy. Please note the following special events for residents and families to enjoy together:

Thank you to all who attended our Fall Festival last Sunday! We had an amazing event with great weather, food, music, and friendship. We believe many moments of joy were shared by all. Thank you to all the staff who helped make it run smoothly. Our next big family event will be on December 10th for our Holiday Party. Save the date!

In addition to our Fall Festival, last week we welcomed some long-neck visitors, Carlson’s Loveable Llamas. We learnt some fun facts about Llamas, for example, did you know that they are used as pack animals and will refuse to move if they are overloaded? We also learnt and experienced that they like to give kisses.

Looking ahead, our October calendar is listed below and packed full of fun activities. I have listed many of them below so you can mark your calendar. One new monthly event we are starting this month is a Non-Denominational Church Service and Communion with Pastor Arlen Solem. Arlen comes to us with decades of experience providing spiritual care for dementia residents. Families are welcome to join us.

We have some fun Halloween events coming up at the end of the month. During the week of October 27, we are hosting a Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest. You can sign up your dog for a 20-minute visit to show off their costumes. Residents, staff, and visitors will vote for their favorite costume from Tuesday to Thursday, and we will announce the winner on Friday. The winner will receive a Chuck & Don’s basket.

On Thursday, October 30, we invite all trick-or-treaters to visit Parks’ Place between 4 and 5 pm or 6 and 7 pm. Our residents will have candy and treats ready to hand out to kids in costume.

We also held our latest Family Council meeting last week, and it was great to see so many of you there. Family Council meetings are a welcoming space for advocacy, communication, and working with staff, as well as sharing helpful information and resources. We will send out the meeting minutes to everyone later this month.
